Snowy Greetings!

Ok, so, it's not snowing too much right now. In fact, it's melting away. But there's still some snow out there :)

We had a really good turnout at Bible talk this week. Besides myself we had Bruno, DJ, Ronald, Diana, Lindsey, Bethany, Taylor, David, Brett, Taneia, Marcus (aka Caveman), and Chris. Bruno taught the message today and as always, began with an icebreaker.


ICEBREAKER:

What was the worst haircut you have ever received?

We had some bowl cuts, a five year old trimming, someone used craft scissors to cut off their bangs, shag, half an afro, and even a bald head.

Then we got on to the lesson, which was about having passion for God.


LESSON:


Define passion in your own words.

Passion is something we do wholeheartedly. It's something we already have in us, we just have to find it. When we have passion for something it most likely will appear on your top 3 most important things list. The love you have for it will never die. It is a powerful emotion.


Does it (passion) describe your relationship with God?

We got our lesson from John 12: 20-33 NIV:

Now there were some Greeks among those who went up to worship at the Feast. They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, with a request. "Sir," they said, "we would like to see Jesus." Philip went to tell Andrew; Andrew and Philip in turn told Jesus. Jesus replied, "The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me. Now my heart is troubled, and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. Father, glorify your name!" Then a voice came from heaven, "I have glorified it and will glorify it again." The crowd that was there and heard it said it had thundered; others said an angel had spoken to him. Jesus said, "This voice was for your benefit, not mine. Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out. But I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself." He said this to show the kind of death he was going to die.

Why is it difficult to have passion without dying to ourselves?

Romans says we are weak in our natural selves. It's not natural for us to love God, so it's a choice we have to make. We have to deny ourselves and take up our cross, not just some of the time, but daily.

Sin kills our passion for God. Selfishness makes it hard for us to focus, so we must let go of ourselves and let God take control and not get so caught up in what's around us.


Why would Jesus say His heart was troubled? (v.27)

He knew he was going to be denied, betrayed, and killed. He had never faced sin and God was going to forsake Him. He's getting ready to take all sin on Himself.


What kind of things trouble our hearts?

What bothered us the most was when someone was upset with us or when we mess up. Several of us beat ourselves up whenever we make a mistake. What kind of things trouble your heart?

When we focus on ourselves we are not focused on God. Jesus was focused on God and did not lose His passion for God. He was focused on what was to come.

So many things can take our focus such as school, family, friends, relationships and so much more. We need to give these things over to God so that we do not focus on them anymore.


How does Jesus' response relate to His passion for God?

He denied Himself and said for God's will to be done. If He didn't fulfill the Scriptures then the prophecy would not have been fulfilled.

Jesus was passionate for God's glory. Are we thinking about glorifying God when we are going through tough times?

We have to make ourselves do it like Jesus did. Jesus did not want to die on the cross but did it anyway because it's what God wanted.

Does your passion for God overflow into your actions? What's stopping you from being passionate for God?


How could God's thundering voice not benefit Jesus? (v.30)

It can still benefit Him even though it wasn't meant for Him, kinda like a pat on the back. To translate that to us, things can happen because of us that helps other people.


The big question is this: Is our passion for God true?

First Bible Talk of the Semester!

We had a wonderful turnout yesterday for Bible talk. Back from last semester were myself, David, Diana, Ronald, Taneia, and Lindsey. We had three others join us: Bethany, Addison, and Aeabanbia. It was truly exciting! After opening with prayer, we had our icebreaker question.


ICEBREAKER:

If you were sleepwalking, where do you see yourself going?


David always comes up with very unusual questions for Icebreaker and this one was no different. We had a variety of responses, from going to the moon (that's pretty far to walk, don't you think?), the barn, turning on the TV, going to the fridge, and Ronald told us about the time he knew he had been sleepwalking because he woke up on the kitchen floor! It was a fun time.


LESSON:

Definition of love at first sight?


David asked us this question before we jumped into the Scripture. We had many definitions of love at first sight, but the overall agreement was an immediate attachment with overwhelming feeling that you just really cannot describe. So with that in mind, we read John 13: 12-17 NIV

When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. "Do you understand what I have done for you?" he asked them. "You call me 'Teacher' and 'Lord' and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher have washed your feet, you should also wash another's feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.

How do we begin serving one another?

It begins with ourselves. We have to put ourselves aside for others and we must feel that love from Jesus. Greeting others is a great way to serve because sometimes all someone needs to brighten up their day is for someone to just say hello. It's very easy for us to be selfish with our time, but Jesus was never selfish with His. He always did what His Father asked of Him and we must do the same. In v. 17, it says that we will be blessed if we do these things.

From there, we turned to Ephesians 3: 14-18 NIV

Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind or teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ.

Everything starts with prayer. We must shine the light of Jesus Christ everywhere like a flashlight (though not in a movie theater, because then people will get mad lol) and from there we went to our last Scripture, which was 1 Corinthians 8:1 NIV

Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that we all possess knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.

We are all going to school for knowledge. It is good to be filled with the knowledge from school, but we must also be filled with the knowledge of God. We closed with a word of prayer.

Welcome to the Alpha Omega blog!!!


I am so excited that we finally have this blog up! It's so exciting! Well, as you have probably already read in our description, we are a group of college students who love God and love people. Our mission is to bring the Word of God to campus and shout His name and glory to the roof! We are super excited about this new semester and are kicking it off with a bang with this new blog.

Let me introduce myself. I am Madison and I am the one who will be posting on the blog right now. I will have an introductory post about us soon, that way you can kinda get to know us and who we are.

We have a lot of fun at our Bible talks...there's always laughter. But if you can't meet with us because of classes or because you just stumbled onto this blog and don't go to our school, don't worry. This is what this blog is for, to post the lessons and people's feedback. And we want your feedback to, so don't be afraid to post!

So, that gives you a taste of what we are all about. I hope you will visit this blog often (follow, follow, follow!) and come see us on campus and learn about God with us. We would love to have you! :)
